SSTC Newsletter – Thurs. July 18

This season Pro Weeks turned out to be a great success. Both clinics and private lessons were almost fully subscribed due to the popularity of the Kern family. It was especially encouraging to see the number of young members participating in the junior clinics and private lessons.

Thanks again to Tom, Sean and Ethan Kern for passing along their tennis wisdom. We all hope we can retain some of the skills we learned over the past two weeks.

A special thanks to David and Joanne Browne for providing the Kerns with a boat during their stay, enabling them to be mobile and enjoy the great fishing at the end of their work day.

From the weather to the courts to the cottage (and the fish!), we couldn’t have

had a better two weeks on your beautiful island. A special thanks to all the SSTC

members who made us feel so welcome. It was a treat for me to spend time in

such a beautiful part of the world with each of my sons. I enjoyed working with

you, and seeing your new and improved tennis skills put to the test. One tip for

all is that if you find yourself slipping on the lower courts, check your shoe tread.

You need clay court herringbone treads on your shoes!

Many thanks to the Blackett family for all their upfront work in getting our 2

weeks organised, along with all their gracious hospitality while we were there.

Thanks also to the Brownes for lending us a boat and to all of those who hosted

us for dinners, baked for the round-robin and generally spoiled us for two weeks.

I’m already looking forward to next summer.

This Friday July 19th is “Mixed Round Robin Summer Social” Tennis AND Pickle Ball event.

Please join us for a fun all level tennis social event at the courts from  4:30PM to 6:30PM.  People are welcome to play pickle ball as well. Non players are welcome to socialize and watch the games.

Please BYOB and appetizer if you like.

For those who wish, we will be doing dinner after at Henry’s.

Congratulations to all of you first round winners in the Doubles and Singles tournaments.

You may now be wondering who to play next and how you find out. The tournament draw sheets are posted in the wooden box with the sliding glass front attached to the fence on court 3 near the deck.

The next time you are at the courts, please write in the name of the winning team/person from your match. Note: You may need to bring a pencil and a pair of reading glasses with you.

The next Junior Round Robin will be on Sunday, August 4th, 2019 from 3:30PM to 5:30PM.

Just a reminder that the AGM will be on Saturday, August 10th at 10:30AM in the School House.
