To: All SSCA Members, Associate Members and your families;
Last year we started spring with a shut down. As true Georgian Bay people, we carried on and made the best of the situation. The Programs Committee organized several safe distanced events including the Outer Island Adventure Race with Kayaks and Canoes circling Frying Pan Island. The very popular SSCA Book Club met virtually over the summer while the kids had the Summer Reading Challenge; Kidfit; a Sailing Regatta; and a Remote Control Boat Race. There was also a wonderful virtual Art Show posted on the SSCA website with contributions from far and wide. In the fall, we held our first ever virtual AGM.
Over the past year, the Environment Committee joined with the GBA in support of Bill 228, to ban unencapsulated dock foam in new docks and repairs. This bill has now completed its passage through the legislature, and has received royal assent. On Property, the Fitness Centre saw many equipment improvements gratefully donated by members. There was the renovation of the Brand Cottage that is now available for rental. Much thanks to the many businesses and individuals that donated time and product to this project (listed on page 34). The New Building Committee continued to work on designs for a future building. At the same time the Property Committee along with a Property Task Force have been putting together an overall view of our property that looks at our member needs, our current property capital plan, and recommendations on how to operate and manage our property going forward. We are close to completion of this overall report and in 2021 will be sharing more info with members.
At the time of writing this note, the COVID situation is showing signs of improvement. Vaccination supplies and campaigns are in full motion. While the US/Canada Border remains closed until June, opening up the border is now being more widely discussed. We continue to work with the GBA and their leverage with Federal and Provincial leaders to bring re-opening soon. We miss our American and overseas members.
As we look to this summer, it will likely open slowly with some activities. Stay tuned through our newsletters for more information.
